Riverwalk Village senior community held a Memorial Day celebration to honor its veteran residents. The event featured guest speakers George Kristo, Dwight Crowmer, and Pete Zebrowski, all military veterans.
Kristo’s wife was a resident at Riverwalk and, in her honor, he continues to volunteer and help coordinate events like this one.

Each resident veteran was individually recognized for their service across various American conflicts, including World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Desert Storm.
“Since we’re a veterans’ facility, we obviously always want to honor our veterans, so we decided to put on a Memorial Day celebration,” Riverwalk Village Executive Director Victoria Roe said.
The event was meant to recognize both fallen service members and the resilience of veteran residents.
“We wanted to celebrate and just honor the people who lose their lives in service, since that’s what Memorial Day is all about,” Roe said, “but we also wanted to make a special mention of our veterans, because more often than not, they were injured in some way or faced some sort of trouble or turmoil coming back to a life here.”
