A Hamilton County girl has already established herself as one of the best javelin throwers in the country – and she’s only 13.
Olivia Norris, an eighth-grade Honor Roll student at Riverside Intermediate School in Fishers, won the AAU Junior Olympics National Championship in the javelin’s 13-year-old category. The event took place Monday, July 31 at Eastern Michigan University. Norris’ winning throw was 87 feet, 10 inches, over five feet ahead of second place.
Norris was first among 45 of the best 13-year-old javelin throwers in the country. She was a national runner-up in the 2013 USATF Youth Nationals, making her a two-time All-American. Norris has not lost a meet in four years.
