Rita Frances Schlimgen

May 14, 1931 – December 1, 2023

Rita Frances Schlimgen, 92, went peacefully home into the arms of her Lord on December 1, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on May 14, 1931, to Anton and Florentina “Florence” (Breunig) Ballweg in Roxbury, Wis.

Rita was married to Bernard (Bernie) Schlimgen on February 19, 1955, and together raised their five children in Waukesha, Wis. Rita and Bernie spent their retirement years in Mission, Texas, where they both enjoyed golfing. During these years Rita celebrated three holes-in-one!

Whether at church, school or the neighborhood community center, Rita could always be found blessing others by volunteering her time and talents. After Bernie’s passing in 2012, Rita relocated to Noblesville to be close to her daughter Sandy and her family. Sandy and her husband, Mike, graciously took Rita in to live with them until 2015 when Rita became a resident at Riverwalk Commons in Noblesville. In 2021, Rita became a resident at Allisonville Meadows Memory Care Unit, where, like everywhere she went, she was loved by all.

Rita enjoyed being with family most, from cross country trips with Bernie to visit their children and families scattered across the country to celebrating life with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved being a mom and grandmother and will be missed by all. The family would like to thank Katrina and the staff at Allisonville Meadows Memory Care for the love and compassion they showed to her.

Rita is survived by her daughter, Sandy (Mike) WeWora of Noblesville; sons, Dave (Mickie) of Camarillo, Calif., Mark (Lisa) of Austin, Texas, Keith (Tami) of Groton, Conn., and Greg (Jean) of Waukesha, Wis.; her grandchildren, Michelle, Nicholle (Marc), Danielle (Mike), Tony (Kristi), Justin (Sarah), Ashley (Andy), Joel, Robin (Kestrel), Jeremy, Josh (Kristina), Christopher, Katie (Adam), and Amanda (TJ); great-grandchildren, Sage, Cade, Morgan, Owen, Eli, Julia, Alayna, Colton, Makensey, Kenadee, Connor, Keller, Anabel, Ariana, Kaitlyn, Aidan, Alexis, Matthew, Hailey, Myleigh, Kara, Amanda, Nora, Madison, and Olivia; her sister, Bernadine “Bernie” (Richard) Mueller; sisters-in-law, Catherine and Lydia Ballweg and RaeJean Schlimgen; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie; grandchildren, Matthew, Jenny, Jared, and Steven; great-grandson, Luke; her parents; brothers, Henry, Leonard, and Sylvester Ballweg; sisters, Barbara Cooper and Marie Drolshagen; sister-in-law, Frances “Fran” Michels-Beuthin; and brothers-in-law, Lawrence, Edwin, Norbert, and Bob Schlimgen.
