You can make a difference in your community and local water quality by removing trash from the White River.
The City of Carmel is encouraging corporate and community volunteers to register for the White River Cleanup scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 13. After the cleanup, volunteers can celebrate their hard work by relaxing in an onsite shelter while listening to live music and enjoy complementary same-day general admission to Conner Prairie. Concessions will be available for purchase and volunteers will receive a free White River Cleanup T-shirt while supplies last.
Due to river conditions, pre-registration is required to participate and space is limited. Walk-up registration is not available this year and no personal watercraft should be brought to the event. Volunteers will sign in at Conner Prairie, board canoes or kayaks, and launch onto the river for a two- or six-mile cleanup. Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes, expect to get muddy, and there’s always a possibility of getting drenched. Trash bags and gloves will be provided.
A $15 refundable deposit is required to reserve your space on a canoe or kayak. Follow the registration directions at whiterivercleanup.org.
This event is brought to you by the City of Carmel, the City of Fishers, Conner Prairie, the White River Alliance and the White River Canoe Company. Special thanks to Hamilton County Household Hazardous Waste, Hamilton County Soil and Water Conservation District, and Carmel PorchFest.
