Reginald Simmons named HSE High School principal

Hamilton Southeastern (HSE) High School will be under new leadership for the 2022-23 school year. The Board of School Trustees has approved the recommendation for Reginald Simmons to be the school’s next principal.

Simmons has worked in public education for more than two decades, beginning his career as a classroom teacher in Perry Township Schools. He then came to HSE Schools in 2005, where he took his first administrative role. He has spent most of his career working alongside students, parents and staff in various leadership roles including, dean at HSE High School and assistant principal at Riverside Junior High School.

Currently, Simmons is the Director of the Hamilton Southeastern Fishers Academy (HSFA), an alternative learning program for students in grades 9 through 12. In addition to his support for secondary students, he is also an adjunct faculty member at IUPUI.

“Mr. Simmons has skills that will assist in cultivating a positive culture for both students and staff at HSE High School,” said Superintendent Dr. Yvonne Stokes. “His instructional leadership experience includes, but not limited to curriculum writing, teacher evaluations and college and careers pathway supports.”

Simmons is replacing Janie Ulmer, who was appointed last month to serve at the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) as assistant commissioner.

“I am very excited and honored to be serving as the next principal of Hamilton Southeastern High School. I am passionate about creating an atmosphere that supports students’ academic and social-emotional development in a nurturing and safe environment,” Simmons said. “This is a role that I do not take lightly, and I am looking forward to working collaboratively with the school community.”

Simmons is longtime resident of Fishers and a proud parent of four graduates of HSE Schools.

Simmons received his B.S. in Social Studies (Secondary) from IUPUI and his M.S. in Administration from Butler University.

Simmons will officially begin on July 1, 2022.
