The Hamilton Heights High School theater students will hold a “Lantern Walk” through Cicero Cemetery from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 22. The walk will include 12 stops at the gravesites of important folks in the history of Jackson Township.
The Reporter will publish a short biography of each of the 12 individuals in our online editions from Wednesday to Saturday for three weeks, concluding April 15.
Frank Wolff is featured in today’s edition.
“I am Frank Wolff. I was born in 1855 in Buena Vista, which is now Atlanta. My brother William and I opened a dry goods store in Arcadia, and sold everything from tools to Buster Brown Shoes. I operated the store until I retired in 1930. William and I built the Queen Anne style Wolff House on Main Street, meant to be a wedding present to William’s daughter. When she chose not to live there, my wife Turia and I moved in, later passing the house on to our daughter Maude and her husband Charlie Carter, a local music teacher. We installed the area’s first “indoor plumbing” in the 1895 house, which consisted of two horse tanks located in the attic and connected to pipes for a gravity-flow water supply. When I passed away at age 94, I was the oldest living resident in Arcadia. My final resting place is the Arcadia Cemetery.”
