Two Hamilton County golf courses will be welcoming some of the best NCAA Division II golfers in the near future.
Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel will be the host of the 2021 NCAA Division II Women’s Regional, while Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville will be the site of the 2022 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Midwest/Central Regional. The University of Indianapolis will be the host school at both events.
UIndy golf coach Brent Nicoson made the announcement of the host courses in a tweet earlier this month. “Two great partners and two great golf facilities,” he said.
Both courses are familiar with hosting big events. Prairie View has been the site of the IHSAA state golf championships since 2014, and also hosted the Indiana Open in 2018.
Purgatory has been the site of many major events as well. In 2014, the course hosted the NCAA East Super Region Women’s Golf Championship, with UIndy as the host school. Mike Merchant, who owns Purgatory with his wife Tenna, also said that the course has been the Greyhounds’ choice for their Men’s Invitational over the last several years.
Merchent said that Purgatory has had the privilege of hosting all of the “Major Events” in Indiana Golf, including the Indiana State Amateur Championship, the Indiana PGA Championship, both the men’s and women’s Indiana State Open, the men’s and women’s Match Play Championship, and the Junior Masters.
“While we have hosted many tournaments, we believe this Regional will be our most prevalent Men’s National Championship,” said Merchent. “We are excited to see some of Division II best male golfers compete. It is an honor to be viewed as a course worthy of hosting this Championship.”
Merchant said Purgatory is involved in a coordinated effort with UIndy, the Hamilton County Sports Authority and the NCAA to “secure sponsorships and volunteers” for the 2022 Midwest/Central Regional.
“The staff at Purgatory looks forward to working with the NCAA on the set-up of the golf course,” said Merchent.
