John Peckinpaugh has stepped down as the Noblesville boys basketball team’s head coach.
Peckinpaugh has accepted the job as the head coach of the Kokomo boys basketball team. He was approved as the coach at the Kokomo School Board meeting on Monday night. This makes Kokomo High School basketball a family affair, as Peckinpaugh’s wife, Hamilton Heights graduate Haley Cook Peckinpaugh, is the Wildkats’ girls basketball coach.
John Peckinpaugh coached the Millers for two seasons, with a 22-24 record. It was his first high school coaching job after spending several years as a college coach, including head coaching positions at Wheeling Jesuit University and the Indiana Institute of Technology.
Noblesville Schools released the following statement on Monday:
“Noblesville Schools announced today that head varsity boys basketball coach John Peckinpaugh has accepted another position, sharing that the decision was based on personal family needs and the opportunity to coach at the same school as his wife.
“’We’re disappointed to see Coach Peckinpaugh go and want to thank him for his service to our students and the basketball program,’ said Leah Wooldridge, Noblesville High School athletic director. ‘We wish him and his family the best as they make this change.’
“Peckinpaugh has been head varsity boys basketball coach for the Noblesville Millers since 2019 and is also a resource teacher at the high school.
“Noblesville will begin the process of identifying a replacement for him immediately and will announce their selection at a later date.”
