The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred the evening of Friday, Dec 29. Deputies were dispatched to the area of US 31 and 256th Street on a report of a northbound vehicle driven by Luz Tavarez, 44, Walton, Ind., that crossed the median into southbound traffic. Tavarez’s vehicle collided with a southbound vehicle operated by Tracy Stewart, 30, Indianapolis.
Jackson Township Fire Department paramedics pronounced Tavarez deceased at the scene. Stewart was treated for minor injuries. Toxicology tests were performed with results pending at this time. Investigators continue to work to determine a cause for the collision but believe road conditions created by the weather may have contributed to the crash.
