Officer Whitesell named Prevail Hero of the Month

The advocates at Prevail agreed that the Hero of the Month Award for October should go to Officer Nathan Whitesell. Officer Whitesell recently transferred to the Cicero Police Department, but the award was given for his actions while at the Sheridan Police Department.

According to Prevail, “While SPD helps our clients and community with day-to-day duties, Officer Nathan Whitesell chose to go above and beyond his call of duty. After responding to a domestic violence call out, Whitesell not only assessed the situation, but stayed on scene for hours to ensure safety of a Prevail client.”

Instead of simply checking the scene, confirming the victim’s safety and leaving, Whitesell called Prevail to have them contact the victim in order to create a safety plan. Whitesell then drove the individual to Noblesville to meet with a Prevail advocate.

“His kindness and compassion shone through even more when he walked the client into the office and made sure to speak with an advocate himself to make sure the client was in good hands,” stated a release from Prevail. “Absolutely none of the actions that Officer Whitesell took were mandatory or necessary, but he strived to help anyway.”

Furthermore, Prevail thanks Officer Whitesell for keeping this individual safe, and for continuing to protect and serve the community.
