The Noblesville community gathers each year on the third Monday of January, the holiday set aside as Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Day, to celebrate his life and legacy in a community service of unity.
The year’s celebration will take place at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 17 at Celebration Hall (Door 2,7) at Noblesville First United Methodist Church, 2051 Monument St.
Mayor Chris Jensen has invited Karrah Herring, the Chief Equity, Inclusion and Opportunity Officer for the State of Indiana to be the guest speaker. She was appointed to this position created by Governor Holcomb.
Noblesville Schools Superintendent Beth Niedermeyer has lined up the Noblesville West Middle School Choir to sing, presentation of the new We Are All Human mural recently painted in the Noblesville High School library, and two collaborative art pieces the public will be invited to contribute to on the way into the program. Everyone is encouraged to arrive early to participate in this opportunity created with the help of Nickel Plate Arts.
Other highlights include a presentation organized by Norm Williams on Dr. King’s Letter from a Birmingham Jail. Dr. Jeff Wright will lead a community choir ensemble. Anyone interested in participating can come for a rehearsal that evening at 6 p.m.
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration is a collaboration of several Noblesville churches, the Noblesville Diversity Coalition, Noblesville Schools, and the Noblesville Chamber of Commerce.
