Dear Editor:
I’ve been here since February 5, 1965 – 57 years, five months, 19 days – being born in USAF on August 30, 1963. Otherwise, I would have been here my whole life like my daddy … RIP June 17, 2020.
We rode our bikes down Cumberland to Potters Bridge as a family and friends. We had weddings, fishing outings, senior picture-taking, canoe rides, and quiet moments at Potters Bridge.
Daddy often talked about driving across the bridge. Graffiti held our memories along with hanging out listening to music in our teen years. It was nice to see the renovations – the trails and paths – and to make new memories.
Bigger is not always better. While I treasure the memories, I know with development comes too much change … too many hazards. Noise pollution, the same as my quiet corner growing up to the busy four-way stop that’s disregarded often. Along with the noise of loud mufflers, semis, dump trucks, and the smell of diesel in my small neighborhood.
We once breathed the fumes of Firestone along with the chemicals in the air that destroyed our cars’ paint jobs and house siding. COPD and CANCER came next. All from fumes of factories and diesel fuel POLLUTION. My mother struggled with COPD the last 14 years of her life and one lung.
Please take into consideration how we the people feel and vote No. Thank you for your time.
