Public invited to submit comments at March 14 meeting
A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will conduct an assessment on March 14 and 15 to examine all aspects of the Noblesville Police Department (NPD).
Areas to be examined include policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services. NPD must comply with 169 standards in order to gain re-accreditation status.

“CALEA accreditation has served to demonstrate the agency’s on-going commitment to excellence and increasing public value through high quality service to our community,” said NPD Chief John Mann. “It demonstrates our commitment to procedural justice, ethical policing and transparency in service delivery. We look forward to re-accreditation with the Commission.”
As part of the onsite assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 14 at Noblesville City Hall, Room A214, 16 S. 10th St., Noblesville.
Agency employees and members of the community are also invited to offer comments by calling (317) 770-2030 between 1 and 3 p.m. on Monday, March 14. Comments will be taken by the assessment team. Telephone comments, as well as appearances at the public information session, are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. Anyone wishing to submit written comments about NPD’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may send them to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Suite 320, Gainesville, VA 20155.
The assessment team is composed of law enforcement practitioners from similar but out-of-state agencies. The assessors will review written materials and interview individuals. The assessors are Chief (ret.) Mark Brooks, retired Chief of Police of the Marion Police Department in Marion, N.C., and Mr. Alex Cueto, retired from the Miami Police Department in Miami, Fla. Once the assessors complete their review of the agency, they report back to the full commission, which will then decide if re-accreditation will be granted.
“CALEA accreditation continues to provide value to the department by ensuring strong internal review and accountability throughout our operational and administrative activities,” said Chief Mann. “The accreditation process allows the members of the Agency, as well as the members of the community, to be confident that the policies and procedures that guide the Noblesville Police Department are based on current, effective and equitable best practices in policing.”
Accreditation is for a four-year period, during which time the agency must submit annual reports attesting to the continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited. Additionally, CALEA Compliance Service Managers conduct annual compliance reviews.
This is the second re-accreditation process for the Noblesville Police Department.
