It was a tough night for Noblesville at the Sneakers for Santa Shootout at Brownsburg on Saturday night.
The Class 4A No. 3 Millers fell to 4A No. 1 South Bend Washington 77-56 in a battle between two defending state champions. Noblesville won the 4A state title last year, while the Panthers won the 3A state championship and are playing up in 4A this year on the success factor.
Washington led the entire way, going up 20-8 after one quarter. The Millers cut that lead to 30-23 by halftime, but the Panthers took control again in the third period, going up 54-37. Washington put the game out of reach by adding another 23 points in the fourth quarter.
Noblesville’s Dani Mendez had a tremendous game, scoring 26 points. Reagan Wilson and Meredith Tippner both scored 10 points, with Tippner also pulling 13 rebounds for a double-double. Mendez collected six rebounds. Tippner and Reagan Wilson both dished out four assists, while Tippner also blocked two shots.
The Millers dropped their first game of the season, making them 6-1 for the year. Noblesville returns to The Mill on Wednesday to host Hamilton Southeastern in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference contest.
