Hamilton Southeastern hosted the Pike Red Devils on Tuesday night for their regular season finale.
The Royals would be tested throughout, but they were able to outlast the visiting Red Devils, 76-71.
HSE was clinging to a 20-18 lead after one quarter.
The Class 4A fifth-ranked Royals found a little bit of breathing room in the second, scoring 22 and holding Pike to 15 for a 42-33 halftime score.
That second quarter momentum carried over into the third with Southeastern posting 22 again to take a 64-47 lead into the fourth.
Pike wasn’t going to go away quietly. The Red Devils gave the Royals all they could handle in an attempt to upset HSE. But, despite outscoring Hamilton Southeastern 24-12 in the quarter, HSE would hold on for the 76-71 win to close out the regular season.
Pike (9-13) will host Class 4A Sectional 11. The Red Devils open up against Perry Meridian (3-16) on Tuesday in the only game that night for the seven-team field.
The Royals were led by Kennedy Holman’s 21 points and eight assists. Maya Makalusky finished with 19 points and six rebounds. Kayla Stidham had 14 points with Kenley Johnson adding 10.
Hamilton Southeastern (19-3) also gets to stay home for sectional play. The Royals host Class 4A Sectional 8. HSE drew the first game on Tuesday and will play the Westfield Shamrocks (13-9) at 6 p.m. The ‘Rocks were also winners at Ben Davis (53-50) last night to conclude the regular season.
