No. 12 Huskies blank Northwestern on the road to stay unbeaten

THE REPORTER

The Hamilton Heights Huskies hit the road and took on the Northwestern Tigers in a Hoosier Conference East Division matchup.

It didn’t take long for Heights to get comfortable on the road.

On the first drive of the game, the Huskies scored and did so in quick fashion. Eric Balcom broke free for a 48-yard touchdown run. The kick failed for an early 6-0 edge.

Near the end of the first, they pushed their lead to 12-0 when tight end Conor Baumann caught a six-yard pass from Bodie Derrer.

The Huskies started really proving their new ranking in the second quarter.

Carson Fettig reeled in a 19-yard pass for a score from Derrer. Balcom ran in the two-point conversion to make it 20-0.

Soon after, Keaton Weaver scored when Derrer found him for a 30-yard pass. Balcom again ran in the two-point try, extending it to 28-0.

They weren’t done scoring before halftime. On Northwestern’s ensuing drive, the Huskies ended it quickly.

Ethan Millsaps intercepted a Brock Shank pass and returned it 22-yards for a touchdown. The kick failed and Heights had a comfortable 34-0 lead at half.

Early in the third, Fettig put the final score on the board when he returned a Tiger punt 38-yards the other way. Balcom ran in his third two-point attempt on the night that accounted for the final score of 42-0.

Eric Balcom carried the ball just twice for 52 yards, but he was key with his three two-point runs.

Bodie Derrer went 11-for-16 for 151 yards and three touchdowns. Tyler Champion caught five of those for 66 yards and Keaton Weaver two for 45.

Hamilton Heights (4-0, 1-0 HC) looks to stay unbeaten next week. The Huskies face another East Division opponent on the road at Western (2-2, 0-0 HC).
