The squad members’ training kicked in they jumped into action, assessing the situation and starting lifesaving measures – establishing an airway, providing chest compressions, and using an AED. They continued this while other squad members radioed dispatch to start medics for the cardiac event. They were able to revive Lt. Niec, and medics with Noblesville Fire Department transported him to the hospital.

Due to the squad’s actions early that morning, Lt. Brian Niec is alive today.

As a result of their efforts, the squad deputies were presented with the agency’s Lifesaving Award during a surprise ceremony on Thursday evening during what they thought was a small shift dinner.

The following individuals received the Lifesaving Award: Sergeant Ryan McClain, Deputy Daniel Wallace, Deputy Skyler Moe, Deputy Eddie Hansen, Deputy Jared Wilcox, and Deputy Tyler Abbitt.
