On Friday, the Carmel community came together to cut the ribbon on a new mural in the Arts & Design District that celebrates Black Hoosier heroes and heroines. The mural was created by artist and educator Israel Solomon.
The $15,000 mural was the collaborative efforts of the Carmel Redevelopment Commission, Carmel Midtown Community Development Corporation, Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation and building owner Brad Subrin. The students who brought the project to the city included Lily McAndrews, Izza Khurram, Adell Urtel along with Cami Carillo, Dariush Khurram, who formed the group Be the Change Indy to raise awareness about social justice issues both globally and locally.
You can see the mural at 301 1st St. SW, a half-block south of Main Street between Range Line Road and Veterans Way.

Nice! Where will the mural be painted for white, Asian and Hispanic heroes?
