Dear Editor:
My name is Debra Minott, and I am running for election to the newly created Carmel-West City Council District.
My husband and our two children chose to live in Carmel because it is one of the best places in the country to live, work, and raise a family. Our streets are safe, our economy is booming, and our roads and infrastructure are constantly improving. More than anything else, we live in Carmel because of the community that makes all those things possible – our neighbors and the families who are the foundation of our city’s success story.
Paul and I came to Carmel 14 years ago and we experienced the ongoing transformation of our city: The development of the Arts and Design District, the Palladium and the wonderful entertainment that now comes here, the City Center restaurants and shops, and most recently the Midtown. If elected to the City Council, I would be committed to continuing that success.
I believe my background brings a unique set of business, government and community experiences to serve the people of Carmel. I worked in the private sector for decades as an in-house attorney and senior executive for some of Indiana’s largest job-creators and economic drivers, learning how to develop and manage large budgets, work with teams to collaboratively solve critical business issues, and plan strategically for the future.
I served on the cabinets of both Governors Daniels and Pence as a state agency director. There, I learned how to make government work efficiently, saving taxpayers millions of dollars with smart decisions that increased productivity and cut costs.
Closer to home, I have been an officer and member of the Village of West Clay Board of Directors for the last five years. With nearly 1,800 homes in the Village, we are like a small city. In this role, I have been committed to working to maintain and improve the safety, infrastructure and day-to-day livability of the Village.
Our city has lived through a transformational last decade, but we did not get to where we are by being complacent. Carmel’s success has brought its own set of challenges for us to face: Handling our city’s finances to balance prudent investments with sound fiscal management, maintaining our excellent infrastructure, and protecting our city’s best-in-the-country public safety record.
If elected to Council I will listen to you, work hard to find solutions to your problems, and be accessible to the residents of Carmel’s West District. I hope to have the opportunity to serve you and Carmel when you cast your vote on November 5!
Debra Minott

Debra. I would like to know if you would like to see the building of the hospital at Spring Mill and 96th St OR would not be in favor of building the hospital at that location?
