Millers girls lacrosse ends season with two wins

The Noblesville girls lacrosse team finished the regular season with two victories.

Last Friday, the Millers traveled to Brebeuf Jesuit. The Junior Varsity Gold team won 9-4, with Brie Hassan scoring three goals and getting four draw controls. Clara Peters and Lily Kane had two goals each and Neve Sloffer and Emersen Leo both had one goal.

In the varsity game, Noblesville won 13-5. The Millers led 5-3 at halftime, then outscored the Braves 8-2 in the second half.

Noblesville’s offense came out strong, and the majority of the Millers’ goals were assisted. Hannah Miller commanded the draw controls winning seven of 14. Marisha Woehler led the offense with three goals and four assists. Nataley Blackburn also had a hat trick with one assist. Guinnie Salas, Hannah Miller and Emma Hammond all contributed two goals and Sophie Reagan had one.  The Noblesville defense also had a strong showing wining 22 ground balls. Lila Julian had four forced turnovers, while Hammond and Bailey Stooksberry both had three forced turnovers. Goalkeeper Lauren Fischer, made seven saves on the night.

On Tuesday, the Millers traveled to Cathedral for their regular-season finale. First, the Noblesville JV Black team played and won 13-8. The Millers led 8-2 at halftime.

Ashley Ralph led the scoring attack with six goals on the night, while Cristina Andrews contributed two goals. Riley Hodges, Lily Kane, Katelyn Etchison, Brie Hassan and Neve Sloffer each contributed a goal.  The defense was anchored by goalkeeper Devyn Pewarski with 11 saves.  Defenders Kyra Knight had six forced turnovers and Adeline Haney was responsible for three forced turnovers. The JV Black team finished the season with six straight wins and an overall record of 10-2-1.

Noblesville won the varsity game 15-7. Cathedral jumped out to a quick, early lead, scoring its first goal in under 20 seconds.  The Millers immediately responded, scoring the next six goals before the Irish would see the back of the net again.  The half ended with Noblesville up 8-3.

The second half started off in similar fashion with Cathedral getting on the board first with a quick goal.  Again, The Millers responded, scoring the next four goals.

On defense, Tori Cook had four ground balls while Avery Pohlman and Lila Julian each had three ground balls.  Goalkeeper Adi Terry had seven saves; one ground ball, one forced turnover and one interception.  On offense, the Millers had four different players with five total points (the total of assists and goals).  Chloe Barnett had four goals and one assist; Blackburn had three goals and two assists; Hammond had three goals and two assists; and Woehler had two goals and three assists.  Molly Adams, Kaelyn Seyfried, and Pohlman each had one goal.

The victory over Cathedral was the Millers’ eighth straight win, and they finished the regular season.  with a 10-5 record. Noblesville will host Bishop Chatard at 6 p.m. tonight in the first round of the IHSGLA Class 2A Regional Tournament.
