The Noblesville gymnastics team finished a busy past seven days Tuesday by competing at a meet at the Gymnastics Company in Indianapolis. This followed a solid performance by the Millers Saturday at the Connersville Invitational.
Noblesville produced its best score of the season at Connersville, totaling a 94.35. Millers coach Jody Kiovsky said that the invitational was “a very diffcult competition,” as there were several gymnasts expected to compete at the state meet.
“I am beyond pleased with how well my small team was able to perform today,” said Kiovksy.
Noblesville’s strongest event was the floor exercise, where it totaled 24.80 points. Charlotte Moise scored an 8.45 on the floor, the Millers’ highest score of the night. Hailey Knoll added an 8.275 and Lyrric Barnett scored an 8.075.
“We produced a team total score on floor that surpassed and flipped right past our previous team high score in floor,” said Kiovsky.
Moise also scored an 8.375 on vault and an 8.125 on the uneven bars.
Guerin Catholic’s Harleigh Abbott also competed at the invitational, scoring a 26.45. Her best individual score was a 7.90 on vault.
Returning to action Tuesday, Noblesville scored a 90.475 to finish third out of four teams at the Gymnastics Company. Abbott again represented Guerin Catholic and Lutheran had a single gymnast competing as well.
Moise had a terrific meet, finishing second in the balance beam with an 8.20. It was the Millers’ best place of the night and tied for thier highest individual score. Knoll scored an 8.20 on the vault.
Moise finished sixth in the all-around with a 31.825, placing in three of the four events. She also took sixth on the bars and was ninth on the floor.
Kiovsky said Noblesville added higher value skills into its routines at the meet, noting that the Millers “did a good job” and were able to pull off those skills, “but our deductions tonight came from their form,” which she said falls under the categories of execution and amplitude, “which is how well you are able to perform the skills. This comes with practice and overall consistency of performing the same skill over and over until it presents beautifully,” she said.
Still, Kiovsky was glad to see her gymnasts perform these new skills in actual competition so they would be prepared to use them in the sectional, which takes place 10 days from now.
“I was pleased to see the girls ‘step up to the plate’ and place the needed skills in their routines,” said Kiovsky.
Abbott finished with an all-around score of 25.40. Her best result was an 8.05 in vault.
Noblesville and GC’s Abbott will be off until Friday, Feb. 26, when they travel to Lafayette Jefferson to compete in the sectional.
