Humane Society for Hamilton County announces $10 Black Friday adoption special

Submitted by HSHC

The Humane Society for Hamilton County (HSHC) announced Tuesday it will hold a Black Friday adoption event from noon to 5 p.m. at the facility, located at 10501 Hauge Road, Fishers.

Adoption fees for all eligible* pets will be $10 and include a free one-month supply of heartworm/flea and tick preventatives and 10 percent off pet insurance. All pets adopted from HSHC are spayed/neutered, microchipped, have at least one round of age-appropriate vaccinations, come with a starter bag of food, and a complimentary wellness exam with one of HSHC’s participating veterinarians.

“As the shelter continues operating beyond its intended capacity, and pet adoptions are outnumbered every day by new arrivals, the emotional well-being of these animals is declining rapidly,” HSHC CEO Rebecca Stevens said. “Only those willing to adopt a shelter animal, or add another one to their packs, can save these animals now.”

The shelter hopes to inspire folks to “fill their hearts, not their carts” on Black Friday so as many of the over 400 animals in their care are adopted before the holidays.

“We need the community to understand that only a steady and continued stream of pet adoptions can help HSHC sustain the number of owner-surrendered and stray animals arriving each day,” Stevens said. “The shelter is not a forever home, but so many are waiting to the point their health declines – forcing us to consider unthinkable alternatives.”

The shelter has identified six animals that may emotionally decline past the point of saving, if their heroes don’t show up very soon.

“Our most urgent animals have waited several months for an adopter to come,” Stevens said. “So if you are considering the addition of a family pet, please know there are dogs and cats of all breeds, ages, and sizes who are literally dying for the chance to love you.”
