Mary Jo (Gatewood) Campbell

February 5, 1944 – June 19, 2025

Mary Jo (Gatewood) Campbell, 81, Noblesville, passed away Thursday afternoon, June 19, 2025, at Riverview Hospital, Noblesville. She was born February 5, 1944, in Hamilton County, the only daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Wisemen) Gatewood.

Mary Jo was a beloved daycare provider and honorary grandmother to the many children she cared for over the years. Prior to that, she worked at Western Electric until they closed. She enjoyed sewing, baking special cakes, the memories of making her daycare a special place, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Mary Jo is survived by sons, Randy Capps, Charles “Chuck” Campbell, Jr., John (Traci) Campbell, and Brian (Mendy) Campbell; daughters, Stephanie (Tony) Dell and Stacie Campbell; grandchildren, Mitchell Campbell, Bailey (Alexandra) Campbell, Jennifer Campbell, Blake Campbell, and Samantha Dell; and her brother, Bill (Susan) Gatewood of Duluth, Minn. Also surviving is the “grandson of her heart,” Carlos, whom she spent many happy hours with; several nieces and nephews; and many other family members and lifelong friends who will sadly miss her.

In addition to her parents, Mary Jo was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Charles “Buddy” Campbell; grandchildren, Charles (Charlie) Campbell, III and Jessica Campbell; and her brothers, Richard “Dicky” Gatewood and Thomas “Tommy” Gatewood.

In lieu of flowers, in honor of Mary Jo she would want you to be kind to one another and yourself. Do your best until you can do better. She believed you could do great things big and small.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
