April 23, 1925 – June 6, 2023
Martha Jeanette Leonard, 98, Whitestown, Ind., passed away on June 6, 2023, at Prairie Lakes Health Campus of Noblesville.
She was born on April 23, 1925, in Noblesville to Ray and Laura (Manship) Clark. She grew up in the northern Jackson Township area and graduated from Cicero High School with the Class of 1943. She then furthered her education at Indiana Business School.
She married Lisco Leonard, Jr. on March 7, 1948, and together they began farming. They were blessed with three daughters who survive them, Donna Leonard of Anderson, Betty Jo (Arlen) Buck of Sheridan, and Sara (Jeff) Moore of Whitestown. Additional survivors include grandchildren, Doug (Connie) Kolb of Sheridan, Amy Theobald of Union City, Tenn., and Aaron Buck of Fishers; plus great-grandchildren, Jesse, Sam, Sophie, Marlee, Eli, Madie, and Jack.
Her parents and her husband preceded her in death.
Martha was a farm wife in every sense of the word. She worked with her husband in getting the crops planted and taking care of their animals that included chickens, hogs, and cattle. She loved working with most animals, which also included their family dog. She planted and cared for flower beds and a bountiful garden. Her daughters attested that Martha was also a good cook and enjoyed having her family around her. Leisure time would find her watching college sports games with Purdue and IU being her favorites.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023, at Hartley Funeral Home Cicero Chapel, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero, with burial to follow at Cicero Cemetery. A time of visitation will be from noon until time of the services. Pastor Charles Cole will officiate.
