Make and take projects return for Carmel’s Meet Me on Main

Meet Me on Main returns Saturday, Sept. 14 in the Carmel Arts & Design District. It will include live music, face painting and caricatures, new exhibits and features in local art galleries and businesses staying open until 9 p.m.

Join the Art lab from 2 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday to create your own sunflower art piece at the Breezeway near SubZero Ice Cream from 5 to 8:30 p.m.

Meet Me on Main monthly drawing takes place once again.  Each month, three $100 gift cards to businesses in the Arts & Design District will be given away. To enter, visit participating galleries and businesses to fill out an entry form. Only one can be filled out per location, but the more businesses visited, the more you can increase your chances. There is no purchase necessary to participate.

Special gallery exhibits this month include:

  • Greg Adams’ tools may be simple and his designs may look uncomplicated, but the process of using willow to make rustic furniture is demanding and time-consuming. Watch as he demonstrates his creative process at Indiana Artisan Gifts & Gallery. Plan time also to meet photographer Al Knight and enjoy his “Re-masking, Shot Stacking, Macro, and Architectural Photography” show. (22 N. Range Line Road)
  • Carmel Art on Main Gallery is showcasing a “Photographic Tour of New Zealand” by Fine Art Photographer Marie Reamer and an exhibit of colorful, vibrant paintings by Brinton Farrand entitled, “Embrace the Chaos,” based on the Einstein quote “Out of chaos comes order.” (111 W. Main St., #140)
  • CCA Gallery is featuring jewelry from Jacquie Green and photography from Gail Wiener. (111 W. Main St., #135)
  • Magdalena Gallery will feature a special exhibit from Thomas Hieronymous Towhey, with work ranging from paint, print and sculpture. His artwork takes color combined with organic forms and layers it into a piece of art. Along with his sophisticated color, he also uses humor, naming titles such as “Pinocchio’s First Flashback,” “Narcissism Ascending Staircase,” “The Bipolar Bear’s New Frontier.” (27 E. Main St.)
  • The Carmel Arts Council Children’s Art Gallery will burst with roses as the OLMC students were inspired to create the roses after learning about Our Lady of Guadalupe. The Gallery Annex will be filled with artworks created by the art teachers of Carmel High School.  This unique art exhibit will showcase and provide insight as to why CHS students receive the wonderful art education they do.   • Soori Gallery features paintings, bronze and acrylic sculptured works by leading American and international artists. (33 E. Main St.)
  • The Carmel Clay Historical Society will feature a new exhibit, “Rockin’ On: The Histories of Carmel High School’s WHJE and CHTV”. There will be artifacts, music and CDs of reel-to-reel tapes from days past. Come to learn how this little high school station started in 1963 and grew to be a launching pad for nationally syndicated radio and television personalities. (211 1st SW)
  • The Evan Lurie Gallery will feature new work by Kris Gebhardt and Angela Gebhardt. The Bloomington-based couple are exhibiting for the first time in Indiana this year after traveling for over a decade to art fairs in Miami, New York and Los Angeles. (30 W. Main St.)

Activities taking place during Meet Me on Main include:

  • Free caricatures and face painting by Custom Eyes Designs outside of All Things Carmel. (110 W. Main St., #104)
  • Free musical entertainment throughout the district: Dianna Davis will play near Indiana Artisan, Owen Newkirk will perform near The Children’s Art Gallery and Rosie Inman will perform near Magdalena Gallery.
  • Make and Take Project featuring create your own sunflower art piece from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Breezeway near SubZero Ice Cream.
  • Free EV Ride and Drive event allows the public to test drive electric vehicles in order to showcase the value and benefits of electric vehicles as not just clean technology but fun to drive as well. The event will run from 5 to 8 p.m. The sign-up table and vehicles will be at the PNC parking lot (northeast corner of East Main Street and North Range Line Road). Participants in the EV Ride and Drive event will be able to test drive or ride along inside a variety of electric vehicles.
  • Art Exhibition for a cause – Peace Water Winery will be hosting Regina Bunting’s new collection of art. A portion of the sales will be donated to the hurricane Dorian disaster relief fund.
