Phi Beta Psi Sorority recently held its 112th Annual National Convention – “We’re All Shook Up” – in Memphis, Tenn. Eight states were represented by delegates from 34 chapters.
Attending from local chapters were Bonnie Colson, who celebrated her 50th year as a Phi Bete; and Darlene Tragesser, Theta Delta Chapter, Tipton; and Suzanne Walton, Earline Gibson, Kathy Kirkendorfer, Janice Janitz and Vicki Cooper, Delta Chapter, Arcadia. Other chapters locally are in Noblesville and Sheridan.
Phi Beta Psi Sorority’s National Project is cancer research and every dollar collected for this project goes to it. This year the total amount given to six different doctors was $181,775. These grants represent research for lung, endometrial, colorectal, breast, brain and ovarian cancers. Since 1941 when Phi Beta Psi chose cancer research as its national project, a total of $10,677,015 has been given. It should be added that there was no National Convention for Phi Beta Psi in 2020; however, the group was able to give $297,318 to six researchers in July 2020.
