The Purdue women’s golf team hosted its Boilermaker Spring Classic early this week at the Ackerman-Allen Course.
Four of the players on the Purdue team have Hamilton County ties, and all are familiar names to local golf fans. That includes two Westfield golfers who are also IHSAA state champions.
Freshman Samantha Brown had the best local finish for the Boilers. Brown tied for 16th with a three-round total of 75-72-75=222. One of her highlights was a hole-in-one during the second round; Brown aced the 17th hole. She totaled four birdies during the tournament.
The 16th place finish was the best of the season for Brown, who won the 2023 IHSAA individual state championship. Also finishing highly for Purdue was senior Jocelyn Bruch, another Westfield graduate and the 2018 IHSAA individual state champion.
Bruch tied for 20th at the Classic, scoring 72-75-77=224. It was Bruch’s third top-20 finish of the year. She had previously finished in the top 10 twice during the Purdue season, tying for eighth at the Match in the Desert event at Gold Canyon, Ariz on Jan. 27., then tying for 10th at the Coach Mo Classic at St. John’s Golf and Country Club in St. Augustine, Fla. on March 31 and April 1.
Another Purdue freshman, Michaela Headlee, tied for 28th at the Classic, totaling 73-73-79=225. Headlee, a member of Carmel’s team state champion teams in 2022 and 2023, has already played six events for the Boilers, with her top finish a tie for 22nd at the Coach Mo Classic.
Junior Alison Hildebrand also played for Purdue, scoring 76-82-79=237 to tie for 73rd. It was Hildebrand’s first event of the season; she graduated from Westfield in 2022.
Sophie McGinnis represented Butler University at the meet and she scored 76-79-77=232 to tie for 56th. The redshirt sophomore also graduated from Westfield in 2022 and is averaging a 77.0 for the Bulldogs this season.
