If there’s one thing Lilly Higgins proved her last season at Hamilton Heights Middle School, it’s that records are meant to be broken when she’s on the track. The now freshman at Hamilton Heights High School didn’t just break personal records and school records; she kept breaking them, week after week in individual events and relays last spring.

From the first meet to the final race, Higgins’ season was a masterclass in perseverance, speed, and determination.

“Just after she broke her first record, she did it again and then again,” HHMS Girls Track Coach Gwen Perkins said. “It seemed as soon as we would update the new record, it was time to update it again!”

Here’s a look at her record-breaking streak this past spring at Hamilton Heights Middle School:

  • 1600m (mile) – 5:09.45 (previous: 5:16, 5:19.3, 5:22)
  • 2400m (1.5 miles) – 8:19.32 (previous: 8:20, 8:22.5, 8:26.10)
  • 800m – 2:27 (previous: 2:28)
  • 4x800m Relay – 10:25.56 (Maddy Higgins, Lyla Bentley, Annie Sheller, Lilly Higgins)

In addition, Higgins was among nearly 5,000 participants in this year’s Delta Dental 5K in downtown Indianapolis on May 3. She crushed it running away with the non-USA Track & Field women’s championship title with a time of 18:26:45.

Higgins’ relentless pursuit of excellence wasn’t just about personal victories – it was about pushing herself to be the best for her team.

“Whether she’s training, uplifting her teammates, or leading by example, Lilly embodies the spirit of a true competitor,” Perkins noted.

Her dedication extends beyond the track bringing the same work ethic to the classroom, proving that success is built on discipline and hard work. While Higgins leaves middle school with her name on the record books, one thing is certain: she’s just getting started. With high school ahead, current records may not stand for long – because if history has shown us anything, Lilly Higgins is always chasing the next milestone! She’ll be one to watch his spring.
