Sheridan girls basketball team boasts full National Honor Society membership

The girls basketball season is over at Sheridan High School (SHS), but last week the team was together again – at the National Honor Society (NHS) induction ceremony.

NHS membership is open to high school students in grades 10 and up, and all members of the girls basketball team (sophomores through seniors) are part of the prestigious NHS based on scholarship, leadership, service, and character. A 3.0 grade-point average is required, in addition to community service requirements.

The team ended the season with an honorable record of 13-9, but Coach Jaidlin Bradshaw is even more impressed with traits that do not show up in the win/loss tally.

The team’s sportsmanship was noticed by more than just the SHS leadership. During the season the team received three exemplary reports from the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) – reports generated by referees based on observations of sportsmanship during games.

“This team has been really fun to coach,” Coach Bradshaw added. “The seniors are awesome leaders on and off the court and really held themselves and each other accountable on and off the court. These kids SHOW UP – I can’t say it enough. They make my job really easy by getting it done in the classroom so we can focus on basketball when it’s time to do so.”

SHS leadership expressed pride in both the team and the coach.

“Academic success in the classroom leads to success on the court,” Athletic Director Beth DeVinney said. “It is our pleasure to celebrate Coach Bradshaw and her team on and off the court. These young ladies exemplify all that is right about high school sports. Leaders win.”

SHS Principal Rick Davis said, “The girls basketball program reflects what we strive for in all aspects of Sheridan Blackhawk Athletics. These student-athletes work hard in practice, games, and most importantly in the classroom. Their past and future successes are a tribute to their character and a product of having outstanding families, coaches, and educators.”

Congratulations and great work, ladies!
