Kate Healey Snedeker, who has spent 25 years working behind the scenes for Indiana Republican candidates and officeholders at the local and state level, filed on Thursday to run as independent for Westfield City Council District 5.
“I am the daughter of a small town Mayor, who passed down her love of public service and problem solving – traits I want to put to use on the Westfield City Council,” Healey Snedeker said. “I believe in collaborative approaches to both addressing Westfield’s challenges and building on our strengths. I am looking forward to providing a different, positive voice in moving our community forward.”
A 15-year Village Farms resident, Healey Snedeker is a wife, mom and small business owner (Kate Snedeker Communications). She worked for seven years at the Indiana Statehouse for the Indiana House Republican Staff, and served as press secretary to Indianapolis Mayor Steve Goldsmith. She is a recent graduate of the Richard G. Lugar Excellence in Public Service Series, an elite public service training program for Republican women across Indiana, founded by former U.S. Senator Richard Lugar.
Healey Snedeker is a graduate of the Hamilton County Leadership Academy and serves on Westfield’s Board of Public Works and Safety. She was an appointee to the Hoosier Lottery Commission by former Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels.
A proud Butler University graduate, Kate and her husband Alan are parents to two active children who attend Westfield schools. Her hobbies include running, reading and playing tennis. She is also a parishioner of St. Maria Goretti in Westfield.
Snedeker’s mother, Anita W. Healey, served as Mayor of Olympia Fields, Ill., from 1981 to 1989.
District 5 includes the following neighborhoods: The Village Farms, Spring Mill Villages, Mulberry Farms, Springdale Farms, Oak Ridge Crossing, Helios, Enclave at Viking Meadows, Two Gaits at Viking Meadows, Hills & Dames, Beacon Point, Shadow Lakes and Bainbridge.
Editor’s note: Kate Healey Snedecker will run against Republican Mike Johns in the November General Election.
