Submitted by Lowry for Indiana
The Lowry for Indiana campaign submitted the following statement to The Reporter on Wednesday morning. Josh Lowry was the Democratic candidate for Indiana House District 24, which was won by Republican Hunter Smith.
Thank you, Indiana.
From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank every single person who knocked doors, made phone calls, sent texts, put up a sign, wore a shirt, shared a social post, left a comment, liked a post, donated and voted for this campaign.
I know the results of this election were not what we wanted – on several levels – but we have to remember that it took longer than one election cycle to get into this situation and it will take longer than one election cycle to change it.
Watching our campaign manager, Raleigh Brown, and active volunteers like Evelyn Davis and Cary Fuller, turn their lives upside down for the promise of a better Indiana reinforced that it takes more than a supremely well-run campaign to bend the arc of the moral universe toward justice. It takes a lifetime of dedication. It takes sacrifice. It takes creating discomfort. It takes accountability. And, most of all, it takes all of us.
So, I want to thank every one of you again. But, I also want to ask you to stay with us because this is just the beginning.
Lowry for Indiana was more than a campaign. It became a community of people who believe equality isn’t a scary word. It became a family of people who gave a shoulder to cry on. It became true friendships. I’m not willing to give up on that, and I’m certain that you aren’t either.
While I don’t have the answer to what we’re going to do next, I do know that we’re not stopping. When we take that next step, I hope that you’ll be there to take it with us. We’re playing the long-game and this is just the beginning.
Use your voice. Make it count.
