John Michael Gentry

February 5, 1945 – April 8, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Michael (Mike) Gentry of Atlanta. He was born on February 5, 1945, to Neil Roland and Joanne (Mosbaugh) Gentry in Noblesville.

He was a graduate of Walnut Grove High School and attended Purdue University, where he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. He served as a medic in the U.S Army from 1966 to 1968 and was stationed at Fort Jackson, S.C. On July 19, 1969, he married his high school sweetheart, Donna (Balser) Gentry.

Mike spent his entire career working in the grain business and was well-known by farmers in central Indiana for his knowledge of marketing. He was employed first by Indiana Farm Bureau Co-op and then went on to manage Yorktown Grain and two large terminals in Beech Grove. In 1996, he and his partner started their own business in Noblesville called Indiana Grain. They specialized in grain merchandising and commodity trading. He was still working there at the time of his 80th birthday.

Mike had many interests besides working. He enjoyed his second home in Las Vegas, going to Raiders football games with friends, weekend trips to Lake Wawasee, driving his beloved Ford truck, maintaining his farm, and spending time with family. He was also an avid gun and coin collector.

Mike is survived by his wife of 56 years, Donna; his two daughters, Malinda Ellen of Chicago and Catherine Anne of Noblesville; his grandchildren, Antoine Jameson Gentry-Wilkinson with the U.S Army, Fort Campbell, Ky., Raegan Joanne Gentry-Wilkinson and Julius Michael Gentry-Wilkinson, both of Noblesville; his sister, Sherry Minton (Terry) of Anderson; his nephew, Randy Reifel of Carmel; his niece, Heidi Barnett of Anderson; brothers-in-law, Jeffrey Balser (Charlotte) of Anderson and John Balser (Dawn) of Arcadia; and two great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2025, at Hartley Funeral Home in Cicero. The funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Arcadia Christian Church, followed by the burial with military honors at Aroma Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aroma Community Church, 16301 E. 281st St., Atlanta, IN 46031.

In remembering Mike, we encourage you to upload photos and share your cherished memories of him on the memorial page. Your stories and pictures will serve as a lasting tribute to a man whose life was a testament to love, generosity, and unwavering strength.
