John Lawrence Alden

December 27, 1939 – April 18, 2022

John Lawrence Alden, 82, Pendleton, and formerly of Arcadia, passed away on April 18, 2022, at Harbour Manor Care Center in Noblesville.

He was born on December 27, 1939, in Noblesville to Bearl and Evelyn (Voss) Alden Zimmerman. His younger years were in Arcadia, where he attended Arcadia Elementary School and Jackson Central High School with the Class of 1958. He was active in school sports, especially high school football where he was a tough competitor.

On June 3, 1961, he joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country for over five years. He was a member of the 101st Airborne Division and later with the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a member of the Cicero American Legion. Upon leaving military service, he worked for Detroit Diesel Allison Company in Indianapolis for over 33 years.

Leisure time would find him camping, working on cars, and following the Indianapolis Colts. He loved to shop garage sales and attend auctions, and from that he became a specialty collector.

Surviving him are two sons, Rodney (Carol) Alden of Pendleton, and Rick (Brenda) Alden of Cicero; brothers, Bill (Lavonnia) Alden of Spencer, Ind., and Greg (Beth) Alden of Arcadia; sisters, Judy Held of Brownsburg, Ind., Kathy Hasty of Marshall, N.C., Jane (Ron) Chance of Cicero, and Linda (John) Travison of Arcadia; grandchildren, Nicole Prater, Sarah Goodrick, Matt Alden, Rachel Alden, and Eric Alden; plus great-grandchildren, Spencer, Julian, Izzy Goodrick, and Sophia Roop.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ron Alden, and a sister, Priscilla Shaw.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Hartley Funeral Home Cicero Chapel, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero, with burial to follow at Cicero Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of the services. Pastor Jody Brown will officiate.
