Joe Burgess

May 20, 1971 – February 22, 2024

Joe Burgess, 52, Noblesville, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on May 20, 1971, to James and Mary (Halcomb) Burgess in Beech Grove, Ind.

Joe was a charismatic, creative, fun-loving prankster. His quick wit, sly jokes, and cabbage patch dance moves made him uniquely and individually who he was. In Joe’s younger years he was a DJ, creating ad libs like no other and mixing together songs with great times second to no one, and he never stopped making music. Taking his family on spontaneous trips to the beach and to Disney World seemed to be some of his top priorities! Joe was a big family man and had a great heart.

Joe was a referee and umpire of many different programs and age groups. He was a giant sports guy, and it was evident how much he loved his job and how proud he was to help his community. Joe was the Umpire in Chief and ran tournaments at Noblesville Babe Ruth as well as serving as a member of their board. Joe brought love, friendship, laughter, and support to most everyone he met.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Burgess; parents, James & Mary Burgess; children, Ciera Burgess, Aaron Burgess, Alyssa Burgess, and Cameron Peed; granddaughters, Lilliana Rutledge and Haven Peed; sister, Kimberly (Brian) Lamping; brother, Steve (Heather) Burgess; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces & great-nephews, cousins, and other family members.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with services at 1 p.m., on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at White River Christian Church, 1685 N. 10th St., Noblesville. Burial will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to Noblesville Babe Ruth, P.O. Box 545, Noblesville, IN 46061.
