July 15, 1962 – December 17, 2025
James Austin “Buggy” Hollenbeck, Jr., 63, Sheridan, passed away on Wednesday evening, December 17, 2025, at Riverview Hospital in Westfield. Born July 15, 1962, in Tacoma, Wash., he was the son of James Austin Hollenbeck, Sr. and Dianna Kay (Raines) Hollenbeck-Ridge.
He attended Sheridan High School and later went to work as a construction tradesman, with roofing being his trade of choice. What began as side work for some extra money when he was a teenager became a 30-year career as a self-employed roofer.
Buggy was one of a kind, and he made an impact on everyone he met. He lived life unapologetically and loved being around other people. He could usually be found out and about on his bike, coming or going from his normal haunts around Sheridan, and he’d never miss an opportunity to stop and talk with anyone who would listen. If Buggy wanted to stop and chat, it was bound to happen – likely with his trademark “Rock and roll!” thrown in a time or two for good measure. His smile was infectious, as was his laugh (he truly loved a good laugh), but his most important quality was in the way he really saw people. It didn’t matter to Buggy who you were or where you came from in life, he saw you the same as everybody else.
Buggy loved his family and friends to no end and was always willing to help anyone who needed a hand, especially when it came to his parents. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Buggy is survived by his mother, Dianna Hollenbeck-Ridge of Sheridan; son, James A Mossburg (Ashley) of Lebanon; four daughters, Melissa Mathis of Lebanon, Amber Dorsey of Kokomo, Erica Dorsey-Hensley (Scott) of Indianapolis, and Diana Michelle Dorsey; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Kelly J. Ridge of Sheridan and Jonalee Grimes (Jeff) of Sheridan.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Austin Hollenbeck, Sr.; and by his stepfather, John Ridge.
Services will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, December 26, 2025, at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be presented to Kercheval Funeral Home, P.O. Box 42, Sheridan, IN 46069, to help defray the cost of funeral expenses.
