Iolene Mossburg

September 23, 1934 – April 11, 2023

Iolene Mossburg, 88, Noblesville, formerly of Sheridan, passed away on Tuesday morning, April 11, 2023, at Riverwalk Village in Noblesville. Born September 23, 1934, in Clinton County, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Berford William and Anna Mae (Cox) Goodnight.

She was a graduate of Sheridan High School with the Class of 1953.

Iolene went to work as a fabric cutter with Aero Drapery. After 10 years with the company, she took her leave and went to work for Indiana Member’s Credit Union, and later Westfield School Corporation in the cafeteria. Eventually she had the opportunity to work with the Hamilton County Election Board as an inspector. This was without a doubt, one of Iolene’s favorite jobs … except of course, for being a wife, mother, and grandmother.

She and her husband enjoyed traveling, and for many years lived the life of snowbirds, staying in Indiana until the cold air started to creep in, then heading to Florida to ride out the winter. After several years they thought, “why head north, just to come back a few months later?” and became Sebring, Fla.’s newest residents. After 10 years or so of soaking up the sun, they returned home to be closer to family, especially their grandkids.

On April 18, 1953, Iolene married her best friend, and the love of her life, James Marion “Jim” Mossburg, and for almost 70 years, you rarely saw one without the other. From square dancing to bowling, Jim and Iolene loved doing things together. One of their favorite activities was playing cards, and when they played, they played to win.

There was nothing more important to Iolene than her family.

Iolene is survived by her loving husband, James Marion “Jim” Mossburg of Noblesville; son, Edward L. “Eddie” Mossburg (Connie) of Sheridan; daughter, Debra L. Stone (Rick) of Ekin; daughter-in-law, Linda Mossburg of Michigantown; five grandchildren, Jamie Mossburg (Lisa) of Lebanon, Travis Stone (Carrie) of Tipton, Katrina Richardson (Jason) of Frankfort, Jenny Smicklas (Kevin) of Lawton, Mich., and Scott Mossburg of Michigantown; 18 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great -grandchildren (with two on the way); one great-great-great grandchild (with one on the way); brother, Mark Alan Goodnight of Anderson; three sisters, Sandra Weir of Sheridan, Marietta Jones of Venice, Fla., and Marcia Hardin (Pete) of Michigantown; and her sister-in-law, Caroline Goodnight of Sheridan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Berford William and Anna Mae (Cox) Goodnight; two sisters, Marleta Faucett and husband Bennie, and Luella Goff and husband Bill; brother, Lowell Goodnight; and by two sons, Theodore Ray “Zinger” Mossburg, and Frederick Mossburg.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2023, at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan, with visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of service.

Burial will follow at Crown View Cemetery in Sheridan. Pastor Scott McDermid will be officiating.
