Huskies overwhelm Western; Kirtley reaches 1,000 points

Hamilton Heights’ Tuesday game with Western resulted in a big win and some history.
The Huskies overwhelmed the Panthers 63-13 in a Hoosier Conference game at the Husky Dome. Heights led 24-3 after the first quarter, never allowing Western to score more than four points in a period.
The history came from senior Kayla Kirtley, who reached the 1,000-point club during the game. Kirtley led the scoring with 17 points, including three 3-pointers. Lexi Branham was right behind her with 16 points.
Kirtley also had six rebounds in the game. Bayleigh Runner added nine points, handed out four assists and made four steals.
The Huskies are 11-6 for the season, and remain second (behind Northwestern) in the Class 3A Sagarin ratings, as well as first in 3A in terms of strength of schedule. Heights will host Tipton at 1:30 p.m. Saturday to finish play in the Hoosier Conference East division.
Both the Huskies and the Blue Devils are 2-1, so the winner of this game will clinch second place in the East. Whoever does finish second will host Lafayette Central Catholic next Saturday (Jan. 20) in the third-place game of the Hoosier Conference playoffs.
