Honor POWs & commemorate Air Force’s birthday on Friday

This Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., visit the Clay Township Military Library and Museum, 10801 N. College Ave., Carmel, then find us at City Hall that evening.

Friday, Sept. 18, is a day to remember, honor, and celebrate.

The Clay Township Military Library and Museum invites you to join us as we observe National POW/MIA Recognition Day and commemorate the 79th birthday of the United States Air Force.

National POW/MIA Recognition Day honors Americans who endured captivity, those who remain missing or unaccounted for, and the families who continue to await answers. On the same date, we salute the generations of Airmen whose service has defended our nation since the U.S. Air Force became an independent military service on Sept. 18, 1947.

Explore military history, reflect on the meaning of “You Are Not Forgotten,” and test your knowledge with U.S. Air Force birthday trivia. Admission is free; donations are appreciated and help our all-volunteer museum preserve the stories of local veterans.

Then meet us at Carmel City Hall

Our volunteers will host a tabletop display from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. during Carmel’s 50th anniversary celebration at City Hall. The city’s old-fashioned Ice Cream Social runs from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Carmel City Hall and the Minnie Doane Gazebo, with live music, games, historical memories, and family activities.

Whether you visit us at the museum, stop by our City Hall table or do both, please help us honor those who served, remember those who have not returned and celebrate the proud heritage of the United States Air Force.
