The sixth-grade Lady Huskies basketball team won the Championship at the 2024 Husky Invitational last Saturday. The season started off slow with a few big losses, but the girls worked hard physically and mentally to improve, and Saturday showcased it!

“Each player has a hand in the win,” explained Coach Laurie Prater. “The girls have worked extremely hard this season. They have not only grown individually but also grown as a team. The energy and aggression on the floor were outstanding on Saturday. The Lady Huskies started the day off strong with a huge win against the Tipton Blue Devils. The final score was 31-13.

“After a brief celebration in the locker room the girls knew their job wasn’t done and began to prepare for the championship game against the Frankton Eagles,” Coach Prater continued. “Earlier in the season Frankton had defeated the Huskies but the girls were determined to not allow that to happen again. The Huskies started out strong and took the lead quick and never let up. The final score of the Championship game was 23-14. Special thanks to the 6th grade cheerleaders for being so supportive and for doing such an amazing job cheering on the Huskies!”

“This has been a great group of girls to coach,” added Coach Prater. “We have come a long way this season and each and every girl has improved! It’s been fun seeing them grow and we are excited to continue to watch as they continue to play. Come out and support our Lady Huskies on home court this Thursday, February 22. Tipoff is at 5:30.”
