Lauryn Wiley, Hamilton Heights’ senior, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for the Danville Area Community College (DACC) Jaguars in Danville, Illinois this fall. DACC is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). She is the daughter of Wade and Trisha Wiley.
“It was the college’s beautiful campus and size that made it feel like home,” said Lauryn Wiley of her visit. “This is the place I look forward to preparing for a career in nursing and to take my game to the next level. Described as a very helpful and caring person, Wiley said she can’t wait to play basketball next year at DACC.
Wiley, a team captain and named to the All-Conference Team, said she has been in love with all things basketball since the fourth grade. She built her skill and agility through practice, working with her coaches, a personal trainer and running track. She credits her dad as being the most influential person in her development as a basketball player, practicing with her, coaching, and just being present at her games over the past four years to cheer her on.
When Wiley, an active member of the White River Christian Church, is not at school or on the court, she enjoys handing out with her friends.
“Lauryn has been a loyal member of our basketball program for the past four years,” said Keegan Cherry, Hamilton Heights Girls Head Basketball Coach, who has coached her for the past three. “On behalf of the entire coaching staff, I would to thank her for everything she has given to our program. We have enjoyed watching her mature into a fine basketball player. And even more important, we are extremely proud of the person Lauryn has become. We will miss Lauryn’s contributions on the court, but we look forward to keeping an eye on her at DACC. Given Lauryn’s work ethic, we are confident she will continue to make us proud and we wish her the best of luck – #TraditionNeverGraduates.”
“Lauryn has been a major contributor to the girls’ program, especially the last two years,” said Kurt Ogden, Hamilton Heights Athletic Director. “She has been both an inside and outside threat offensively, which has provided some versatility for the program. She will be sorely missed at Hamilton Heights and we wish her well on her continued basketball journey at Danville Area Community College.”
