ARCADIA – The swimming season is underway in Hamilton County, with the Hamilton Heights girls team the first one in the pool.

The Huskies began their season with a 127-52 home victory over Heritage Christian. Heights won 10 of the 12 events, including double wins from two of its returning swimmers.

Senior Anna Jozsa placed first in the 50 and 100 freestyles, while junior Teegan Madara won the individual medley and the 500 free, the event in which she qualified for state last season.

“I think it went really well for our first meet and we have things to work on in practice, and we’ll come back stronger with Tipton,” said Huskies coach Jenni Clarke.

Other individual wins came from sophomore Sophia Hulen in the 200 free, sophomore Campbell Lively-Mason in diving and senior Jane Pache in the backstroke. Heights also swept all three relays: Pache, Madara, Hulen and Jozsa won the medley relay; Pache, senior Karley Duncan, junior Mary Ella Bichey and sophomore Sarah Toll placed first in the 200 free relay, and Hulen, Jozsa, freshman Rachel England and Madara were the winners of the 400 free relay.

Other swimmers on the team, all of whom swam for the Huskies team on Thursday, are senior Lucy Hogg, juniors Mary Bowman and Shanna Hackett, sophomore Bea Pache and freshmen Adalyn Gould and Anna Monnin.

“We’re building from last year and we have a really good group of freshmen that came in,” said Clarke. “Three really strong freshmen that are going to contribute right away. They did tonight.”

Heights will return to action Tuesday at Tipton, which will also be the first meet for the boys team.
