He believed in me

By JANET HART LEONARD

From the Hart

It was June 2004. I remember standing at the foot of my dad’s hospital bed. I was telling him I was going to sell cars.

He smiled.

He told me “Bug, you can do anything you put your mind to doing. Always remember that.” I was 48 years old. And I believed him.

I heard those words time and time again during the past 11 months as I wrote my book. Sadly, he passed June 28, 2006, a month before I wrote my first column for the Noblesville Ledger. He never read any of my writing. But … he believed in me. Oh, the power of a parent’s words.

And so, this week I hope he and my mom were able to sneak a peek through the veil of heaven to see that …

I did it! I am an author!

My book, When the Hart Speaks … Whimsy and Wisdom from the Little House on the Alley was released both in paperback and eBook on Amazon.

Dreams do come true. Little girls really can grow up to be authors, even if they wait until they are 66 years old.

No matter their age, children need to hear that their parents believe in them.

My dad knew this well.

And so, I put my mind to writing a book.

What’s it about?

If life has not gone the way you planned. If you’ve been betrayed. If you’ve ever been angry with God. If your life just does not make sense. If you’ve ever questioned why God allowed something to happen. If you’ve ever needed to find hope amid the muck and mire of life. I’ve been there. My words tell my story.

It took a long time for me to see that God was writing a story of redemption. God has been writing it for many years. I often wrestled Him for the pen. That did not work out well.

I can hardly wait until you read about my mom and dad. You are going to love their love story!

“Dad, thank you for believing in me. I still hear your voice. Now my readers will hear my voice.”
