Harvey reaches Round of 16 at Boys Junior State

Westfield’s Will Harvey advanced to the Round of 16 Wednesday at the Indiana Golf Association’s Boys State Junior Championship, which is taking place this week at Purdue University’s Ackerman-Allen Course in West Lafayette.

Harvey advanced by facing two familiar players. In the first round, he beat Zionsville’s Brycen Tisch 4&3. Harvey won three of the first seven holes for an early 3-0 lead, then clinched the match by winning the 15th hole.

In the second round, Harvey beat Fishers’ Tommy Klinker 4&2 in the day’s only all-Hamilton County match.   Klinker reached the second round with a 3&1 victory over Lafayette’s Patrick Dimmitt; he recovered from a 2-0 deficit and won three of the last five holes to advance.

Mattingly Upchurch, soon to be a senior at Hamilton Southeastern, also advanced to the Round of 16. Upchurch began the day with a 4&3 win over Fort Wayne’s Camden Meyers, then beat Valparaiso’s Colin Kaleth 2&1 in the second round.

In other first-round matches involving Hamilton County golfers, Garrett’s Carter Demske beat Carmel’s Benjamin Kauffman 3&2, while Richmond’s Brady Moore beat Westfield’s Ryan Cesare 4&3. Middlebury’s Silas Haarer was a 5&4 winner over Fishers’ Lucas Brown, and Fort Wayne’s Caden Matthias got past Noblesville’s Lance Decker 3&2.

Chesterton’s Camden Tegt won over Noblesville’s Tyler Marucci 4&3, McCordsville’s Elijah Lemmon defeated Carmel’s Noah Johnson 5&4, and Zionsville’s Max Steiner beat Noblesville’s Jackson Umthum 3&2.

Goshen’s Brayden Miller beat Westfield’s Mitchell Keene 7&6, while Boonville’s Cash Willis edged out HSE’s Dane Starnes 1 Up. Gas City’s Landon Tropf won 4&3 over Westfield’s Hudson Kutchma.

The tournament continues this morning with Round of 16 matches. Harvey plays Roanoke’s Landon Snyder at 8 a.m., while Upchurch takes on Haarer at 8:24 a.m. All winners advance to the quarterfinals, which will be played later that day.
