Nickel Plate Express celebrated one full year of operation on Saturday with two Birthday Express rides. The morning ride was special not only for the Nickel Plate but also for many of the passengers because three children, whose birthdays were also Saturday, had their parties on the train. On the afternoon ride, passengers sang “Happy Birthday” to the train.

People came from far and wide to help the Nickel Plate Express celebrate its first birthday on Saturday. Birthday Express rides included themed decorations, birthday cupcakes and opportunities to sign a birthday card.

  1. I wonder how many of these people celebrating have any idea the entire Nickel Plate line from Noblesville to Indianapolis is in the process of being destroyed, with tracks mostly removed along it’s entire length due to greed and the worst group of elected officials in the county’s history, who saw fit to destroy something truly unique and historic. Some celebration!
