On Thursday, Feb. 8, award-winning author and illustrator Bethany Barton will share her hilarious books and make science communication fun with interactive readings of I’m Trying to Love Garbage and I’m Trying to Love Spiders. Discover the magic behind making STEM-focused books lovable for all ages. Her charismatic storytelling sparks curiosity, making this the perfect event for your budding scientists.
Barton’s books have won the Children’s Choice Award, been named an Amazon Best Book of the Year, and were featured in the New York Times. She’s won over a dozen state literacy awards, and travels around the world to visit schools and inspire young readers. Her books have been translated into four languages. She is on a mission to empower kids to explore STEM – and life – using facts, humor, empathy and critical thinking. When she’s not creating books, she works on major television shows like Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Muppets, and Westworld. She was a camp counselor for many summers and brings that energy to her presentations. The Kids Ink Bookstore will be onsite with a selection of her books for purchase and she will be available to sign books after the event.
On Monday, Feb. 12, join Saadia Faruqi, a Pakistani American author and interfaith activist. She writes the popular children’s early reader series Yasmin and other books for children, including chapter books, graphic novels, and picture books. Her middle grade novels include A Place At The Table co-written with Laura Shovan (a Sydney Taylor Notable 2021), A Thousand Questions (a South Asia Book Award Honor 2021) and Yusuf Azeem Is Not A Hero which is currently nominated for a Young Hoosier Book Award.
Faruqi is editor-in-chief of Blue Minaret, a magazine for Muslim art, poetry, and prose, and was featured in Oprah Magazine in 2017 as a woman making a difference in her community. She lives in Houston, Texas, with her husband and children. Following the program, she will be available to sign books. LoudMouth Books will also be onsite with a selection of her books for purchase.
