Hamilton County Parks & Recreation to honor John Bundy with dedication ceremony at White River Campground

Hamilton County Parks and Recreation (HCPR) will hold a special public ceremony at 2:30 p.m. April 22 to honor the legacy of John Bundy, founder of White River Rescue Inc., for his dedication to the preservation and restoration of the White River.

The ceremony will take place at the White River Campground, 11299 E. 234th St., Cicero, where a dedication plaque will be unveiled in recognition of John’s unwavering commitment to the river and its surrounding ecosystem. Anyone who wants to attend is welcome.

John Bundy founded White River Rescue Inc. in 2000, following a devastating pollution incident in 1999 that killed millions of fish in the White River. This tragic event sparked his mission to restore the river’s health, protect its wildlife, and enhance its natural beauty for future generations. His work focused on river restoration, fish restocking, and environmental consulting, contributing significantly to the river’s revival and making it a thriving habitat for fish, wildlife, and a beloved recreational space for the community.

“We are proud to honor John Bundy’s remarkable contributions to the White River and the Hamilton County community,” HCPR Director Chris Stice said. “John and the efforts of the White River Rescue have not only restored the health of the White River but have also created lasting opportunities for local families to enjoy its beauty and resources. The dedication of this plaque is a small token of our appreciation for his dedication to conservation.”

White River Rescue Inc. made a generous $52,000 donation to HCPR, which funded the refurbishment of the fishing pier at the White River Campground. The donation has greatly improved the pier’s accessibility, aesthetics, and overall experience for visitors.

Joining the ceremony will be members of White River Rescue Inc., including Valarie Bundy, Steve Schwartz, Lori Schwartz, and Don Watson, who made this substantial contribution to the White River Campground possible.
