The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office recently announce the addition of MaKayla Keating as its newest Deputy Coroner.

Keating brings a wealth of discipline, leadership, and service experience to the position, following four years of service in the United States Marine Corps as an Infantry Rifleman. During her military tenure, she rose to the rank of Sergeant.

Keating is a graduate of Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), where she earned her degree in Psychology. Her academic background, combined with her military experience, brings a unique perspective to the sensitive and essential work conducted by the Coroner’s Office.

“We are thrilled to have MaKayla join our team,” Coroner Jeff Jellison said. “Her strong work ethic, commitment to public service, and background in both the military and psychological sciences will be invaluable assets as we continue to serve the people of Hamilton County with professionalism and compassion.”

Outside of her professional duties, Keating enjoys staying active through workouts and outdoor activities, including hiking and running.

Keating officially began her role earlier this month and has already begun the onboarding process, field training program, and will attend Indiana’s mandated medicolegal death investigation training.

Unfortunately Indiana does not require any medical background in forensic pathology to be a coroner
