The Guerin Catholic girls golf team was a winner on Opening Day, as the Golden Eagles triumphed at their own invitational Monday at Pebble Brook Golf Club.
Guerin Catholic scored a 337, followed by Bishop Chatard 381, Cathedral 403, Roncalli 427 and Cardinal Ritter 462. The Golden Eagles’ Christina Pfefferkorn was the meet medalist with a score of 67, while Angelica Pfefferkorn was the individual runner-up with a 72. Jenna Rust scored a 96 and Audrey Kunce’s 102 completed the team score.
On Tuesday, Guerin Catholic finished third at the Lafayette Jefferson Booster Invite, which was played at Battle Ground Golf Club. The Golden Eagles scored 334; Zionsville won with a 318 and NorthWood was second with 324.
Angelica Pfefferkorn was again the individual runner-up with a 70, while Christina Pfefferkorn carded a 75 to take fourth. The other three GC golfers all had personal best scores: Rust with 90, Kunce carded 99 and Jenny Zerla had 104.
Carmel and Westfield finished second and third respectively Monday at the Bloomington South Invitational, which take place at the Bloomington Country Club.
Top-ranked Evansville North won the tournament with a 294, followed by the Greyhounds with 313 and the Shamrocks with 322. Carmel’s Katie Kuc was the individual runner-up with a three-under par 70. Sydney Longstreth carded a 79, while Ava Nguyen and Ava Hedrick rounded out the score by each shooting 82.
Sophie McGinnis and Natalie Shupe led the way for Westfield, as both scored 78 and tied for sixth place. Allie Hildebrand and Brette Hanavan both carded 83s and Cate Jensen had 88.
“Today was a great day for our team,” said Shamrocks coach Trevor Neu. “We learned a lot about ourselves being paired with the top teams in the state in Evansville North and Carmel. We had kids shoot some good scores on a challenging course. I’m really proud of our kids today.”
Westfield’s junior varsity team finished second Monday at the Plainfield Invitational at Deer Creek Golf Club.
Grace Snyder led the Shamrocks with a 77 to earn individual runner-up honors. Avery Brooks scored 83 and nearly had a hole in one on a par three. Alli McEvoy finished with an 86, Allie McKeown carded an 87 and Ashlyn Bauer scored 97.
Hamilton Heights finished in eighth place at the Plainfield Invite with a score of 408. Sydni Zebrauskas led the Huskies with an 86, followed by Ellie Arrowood 99, Rebekah Steffen 107, Kaylee Rhoton 116 and Anna Rickey 123.
