The Carmel girls basketball team rolled to its eight consecutive win on Wednesday, beating Anderson 72-46 at the Eric Clark Activity Center.
The Greyhounds led 25-16 after the first quarter, with Bridget Dunn scoring 12 points during that time. Carmel then stepped up its defense in the second and third periods, allowing the Indians only eight points in each quarter. The ‘Hounds continued playing well on offense, leading 41-24 at halftime and 60-32 after three periods. Kate Clarke scored nine points in the second quarter.
“Anderson threw some good things at us,” said Carmel coach Erin Trimpe. “They penetrated through our defense. We’ve done a good job the past couple games of playing defense.”
Trimpe said that Anderson’s “quickness definitely bothered us,” but the Greyhounds made some adjustments and things got better from there.
Clarke led the Carmel scoring with 25 points, including three 3-pointers. Dunn added 20 points and made all seven of her two-point field goal attempts. Dunn also scored another double-double by collecting 11 rebounds.
Riley Pennington pulled nine rebounds, with Fatima Valiente scoring nine points and getting six rebounds. Hannah Lach had five rebounds, four steals and made two 3-pointers on her way to eight points. Clarke handed out four assists and made two blocked shots.
Carmel is now 11-6 and travels to Fort Wayne Carroll on Saturday for an afternoon game.
