“We love seeing local arts organizations making their work welcoming and accessible to everyone … Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre (GHDT) just made a big step in that direction! Their website is now available in 12 languages – including Polish! GHDT is known for powerful, emotional performances that connect cultures and tell stories from around the world – and now it’s even easier to be a part of that experience.” – Polish Cultural Society of Indiana
At GHDT, we believe deeply in inclusivity, accessibility, and the power of dance to ReCharge and uplift the spirit! A live dance concert is an experience! A TikTok video, a YouTube posting, and social media give students, interested persons, and young aspiring dancers the chance to see great dance, but not to experience it.
At GHDT we believe that dance has the ability to transcend barriers, inspire and stimulate conversations, and create community.
But sometimes, access to the arts has real, tangible barriers. They can be anything from physical accessibility to our theaters, a website with a language barrier, access to calming spaces, financial barriers, and cultural or socio-economic barriers.
That is why we are announcing new accessibility innovations to our website and our commitment to the community that reaffirms and gives financial access, 12 languages access, and a welcoming culture.
Going to the theater can sometimes be an overwhelming experience. Getting the information you need in the language most comfortable for you, navigating a parking lot and handicap accessible parking, having an idea of how to manage inclines and stairs, concerns about access to calm or quiet spaces when needed during the performance, help with audio enhancement equipment, and even the question of how welcoming the environment may be are all questions that can linger in a patron’s mind and sometimes prevent them from attending a concert.
With a diverse multi-cultural and multi-community focus, we promise you that you are welcome and celebrated for who you are and all that you bring to the table as a valued patron and member of the GHDT Community Family.
We know firsthand how live dance and access to it has enriched and altered lives. That is why, as a part of our ReCharge with GHDT Campaign we are introducing our Making the Arts Accessible program! This amazing program is available to dance studio students and college dance and theater majors, and makes a ticket to see this world class company the same price of their favorite coffeehouse drink, or a matinee ticket to a movie!
In honor of our 28th season, dance students or college dance and theater majors can see GHDT in concert at the Allied Solutions Center for The Performing Arts for any of our concerts at The Tarkington at a new exceptionally low ticket price. A potentially life-changing, soul-recharging, live concert performance experience is available for dance and theater students across central Indiana at an incredibly low cost. Information about this program, and monthly e-blasts went out to over 40 central Indiana dance studios and university departments starting in September.
But accessibility goes beyond physical needs, and that’s where we promise that you are a part of the GHDT Family. That promise goes beyond our multi-cultural dance, music, and programming. It is our promise to help create economic accessibility through our Making The Arts Accessible ticket price campaign for dance and college students. It’s also access to honor our Veterans through Vet Tix. It’s our open doors for multiple retirement communities. It’s walking you through your very first live theater concert, and what to expect.
It doesn’t matter where you came from, where you are in life now, or what makes you extra special that creates varied needs at our concerts: You are Welcome in our House.
That is our commitment and our promise to our community. We encourage you to read our Accessibility Commitment in our all new multi-language website at GregoryHancockDanceTheatre.org. The Commitment is found under the “Performances” tab.
For easy reading, the language translator is found at the bottom right of our website screen. Just click on the tab and choose the language of your choice for access into the multifaceted and colorful world of GHDT.
